Jane Anderson is an Edinburgh based writer of historical fiction. Born in Fife she studied English Literature at Edinburgh University. Jane spent most of her life living overseas in countries as far-flung as Vietnam, Azerbaijan and most recently, Egypt. Retelling history from the point of view of women is where the fun begins.

The Girl Who Fled the Picture was published in 2023 and The Paintress in 2024. The Orchid Hunter’s Daughter was  published November 2025 and is the first book in the Scottish Library series.

The second book in this series, The Carnegie Girls,  will be published on the 14th. November 2026.

Edinburgh is a great place to be a writer and Jane is very active in the local writing community, helping to run two literary organisations:

Edinburgh Writers’ Forum holds monthly meetings, almost always on the second Tuesday. They meet in The Edinburgh Bookshop. If you write you would be very welcome. It is a place to network with other writers and expand your knowledge and skills.

The Edinburgh Women’s Fiction Festival will hold their fourth annual event on 24th October 2026.
