The Paintress

The Paintress was inspired by a chance encounter in St Petersburg’s State Hermitage Museum. I stood in front of five life-sized paintings of the family of Nicholas I, and was astonished to read that they were painted by a Christina Robertson who came from Kinghorn in Fife, which is near my hometown. How was it possible that I’d never heard of this painter?

My fascination inspired me to years of research. I was very privileged to have the support and encouragement of art historian Dr Elizavetta Renné, from the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. We collaborated to write an article about Christina Robertson, which was recently featured in the online art history magazine Art in Society. Follow the link below to read more about Christina Robertson.
